Sec’thar’lini
Physiology: The Sec’thar’lini (Own language-Far Ranging Hunter) are six-limbed insectoid creatures, coloured tan with black and red stripes. The rearmost pairs of legs are much longer than the two front forelegs, and serve as the primary locomotion, the forelegs being 1/3 shorter. Sec’thar’lini are quite agile and fast, they can climb and burrow. They have two side mandibles, each ending in four “fingers” and an opposable “thumb”, allowing them to grip normal objects.
As well as these “fingers” the arms have chitinous blades extending across both the top and bottom of the forearm, functioning as sword like weapons in close combat. At the front of their bodies is a large pincer that contains their mouth and has enough strength to cut through concrete. Beneath the pincer is the stem that contains their brain, this stem also has their eyes, one on each side of it; the eyes range across all the colours of the spectrum. They fully sentient and are capable of communicating, they have also been said to have a knack for languages.
Most adult Sec’thar’lini reach between 2 and 2.5 metres tall, and 4 and 5 metres in length, with the mandibles extending between 0.5 and 1 metres from there. However, some of the species are capable of reaching 4 metres tall and 8 metres long, however these are very rare or are ancient enough to remember a time before space travel; the majority of these are those that were fed a small amount of royal jelly, in design to be a soldier or replacement queen for the hive. Their exoskeleton is between 0.05 and 0.2 metres thick, with the thickest parts being at the front of the stem containing their brain. They have an average running speed of 40 km/h and a maximum speed of 55 km/h.
Life: They usually have a very long lifespan, easily reaching into a millennium if left free from war or disease. They have only fully matured at the coming of their first century of life, and their first mating season. For the first five years they live in a small colony directly under the control of the queen, after this they have grown enough to hunt and are taken from the colony, at this point they lose social instinct, but still retain an ability to socialise if they so desire.
Psychology: While the Sec’thar’lini began as a hive species operating under a queen, they are now loners to their own species, but happily coexist with other species. They only gather in times of mating, which is once every one hundred of their planet’s years, or in times when the survival of the entire species is threatened. All Sec’thar’lini have a small psychic link to the queen, a trait kept from their hive like past. However, as a Sec’thar’lini age, the psychic link decreases, eventually disappearing if they reach bi-millennial age. Before or after their psychic loss, they are intuitive, intelligent and lonesome; to such a degree that they had to be forced by the queen to work together long enough to produce their space craft.
Government: The Sec’thar’lini have no centralised government, as each is fully independent, but when they do gather, the one hundred eldest amongst them form a council to reach decisions. While not democratic, it has proved to be effective in the past. There is also a nominal queen, whom has a mild psychic link to all members of the Sec’thar’lini species. She only functions to bring them together in times of need, but there have been instances when she has used the link to totally dominate the minds of the species.
Technology: The Sec’thar’lini have developed craft that are designed to be used for a single occupant, equipped with basic weaponry and armour, but advanced engines and a large cargo area for them to be self sustaining. They only make use of the one class of ship, but sometimes take positions on the ships of other species. They have also developed basic firearms to augment their ferocious close range combat ability, in most cases these are small slug throwers, ranging from a “flintlock” to a “gas-operated” weapon, but if they have access to a large power supply they can make use of laser technology they developed. They usually make use of fossil fuel burning for power, but have experimental nuclear power cells on their space craft.

Important worlds:
Name: Elini (Own language-Hunter Lair)
Class: L
Diameter: ~20,000km at equator
Gravity: 45N
System: El’Lini (Sempiternum central system, in own language-Of Hunter Lair)

Population: ~50 million Sec’thar’lini, widely dispersed (~100 km2 each)
Species: Sec’thar’lini, Sar’la (Tree prey), Net’la (Sea prey), Ol’lini (Sky Hunter)
El’Lini is the home world of the Sec’thar’lini, and is the only planet they have control of. It contains all of their records, and all objects of cultural significance. However, these are few and far between, with the majority of the culture and history being held in memories of elders.
